Hayden turned 8 years old last Saturday.  Eight.  Years.  Old.  I have an eight year old.

We had my family visiting to help celebrate Hayden’s big day, they helped to make it so very special (more on that later).  Hayden proclaimed in the middle of the day  “I am having the best birthday ever!”  And isn’t that what it is all about?

It was a wonderful, busy, fun filled weekend, that ended Monday morning and I have been playing catch up since, but so very worth every single second of just letting go and enjoying the moments with my family.

At eight years old Hayden here are the top 8 things I love about you:

1.  Your sweetness and patience with your sister and others – you have a way with Maddy, you have this voice you use with her that you have since she was very little to get her to do something.  You have said you love her a little more than anyone else in this family and it is mutual.

2.  Your love for animals – you play with Millie, you love when my family brings their 5 dogs to visit.  You sit on the floor and cuddle the little dogs, and they just adore you.

3.  I love the way your mind works – you have to figure out how things work, you have never been ok with a simple answer, you always want to dig deeper and figure it out.

4.  Your thoughtfulness – You wanted to make sure once again that every friend you invited to your party would have a buddy.  You didn’t max out in the number of kids we would allow, you choose 5 friends,  more you focused on inviting kids that had invited you to their parties and making sure no one would feel alone at your party.

5.  I love your smile – It lights up a room and shines through in your adorable eyes.

6. Your ability to take on new things – You make friends easily, you will be tackling a new school next year and while you hesitated at first, you are completely ok with it and are ready for a new challenge.  You love to learn something new, whether it is a new game or working the handle brakes on your new bike, you take it on.

7.  You are funny – you love to laugh and crack jokes and make up silly things.  Maddy thinks you are a hilarious.

8.  Your love of reading – you continue to love to read, I love the excitement you have when we return from the library with a new stack of books, you go to your room and I don’t see you for a couple hours when you have new books in the house.

I love you Hayden so very much.
