Hayden’s 1st day of 3rd Grade

Hayden started school September 4th.

That morning was hard, I think it was the combination of such a fun summer and the fact that Hayden was heading off to a new school that had me so emotional.

Hayden did great with the school change, it meant we got to carpool with a friend he loves to hang out with.

That first day as I pulled up at the school Hayden and his friend were laughing and smiling.  I said goodbye to them and while Hayden did say goodbye, he was wrapped up in hanging with his friend on his first day at a new school.  Seeing him laugh and smile as he left made it easier on me to realize he was going to rock this new school too.

So while I drove Maddy and I home, I was smiling and crying and telling Maddy we were going to have so much fun that day.  Because Maddy…she was sad her brother was gone for the day too.  We baked blueberry muffins that day and kept ourselves busy till Hayden returned.

When he returned he proudly exclaimed that he had more homework the first day of 3rd grade than he did at any time last year.  Don’t worry that feeling didn’t last, he wasn’t keen on homework that first day, but he did it.  Each day homework goes smoother and we are all getting used to the new normal.
