When I first started cooking meals, I used to have the hardest time getting everything ready at the same time, you know the side dish, vegetable and main dish.  At first they were never done at the same time.

I used to sit and wonder how on earth my mom accomplished this every single night.  But she always did and she typically had dinner on the table exactly at 6pm, when the church bells near our house were ringing.  My sister and I knew dinner was served when those bells were chiming.

Somedays I would come to the table early, hungry and sit there and wait.  When I think back to this, it makes me laugh.  I have yet to have a child come to dinner early and sit there and wait, but I do get them whining at me that they are hungry.

Today I have no troubles getting dinner ready at the same time, but I am always pleased when I pull it off and think about my mom.

She managed to always have dinner on the table, never complained about a meal dirtying more than a couple pans (unlike me), always kept up with the laundry.  But more than that she always took the time to be with us.

She had the time to sit and watch some old movie on tv with me.   She always had time to bake with me, to help with homework, to braid my hair or dye my hair in high school (yes I was blond then), to teach me how to drive by having me drive to different malls, to listen to me.  And the list goes on in my head.

Like I tell Hayden and Maddy, I have the best mom ever.

It’s all those times she took and still takes that make her such a wonderful mom.
